Organisation
CIEMAT is a Public Research Institution belonging to the Spanish Ministry of Economy and
Competitiveness (MINECO). It promotes and carries out research and technological development
projects in the field of energy, keeping as far as possible close connections with other national and
international research groups with similar objectives. CIEMAT is a reference in R&D activities in
radiological protection in Spain, participating and leading national and international research projects
in the areas of radioecology, environmental radioactivity monitoring, dosimetry of ionizing radiation,
radiation protection of workers, public and environment, radioactive waste management and ionising
radiation metrology. As reference institution in radiological protection in Spain, acts as technical
support for operators and for the Spanish Regulatory Body (CSN). CIEMAT also has an important
activity in education and training of professionals (radiation protection, radioactive waste
management, nuclear safety), and a wide experience in organizing workshops. CIEMAT has
participated in many relevant international projects (BIOMOVS-II; BIOMASS; TARRAS; CREAM;
BIOPROTA; FUTURAE; GENRISK; FASSET; ERICA; EMRAS-II; STAR; NERIS; PREPARE; COMET). The
organisation is partner of the European platforms ALLIANCE, EURADOS and NERIS.
Role in the project
CIEMAT activities in radiological protection extend to the workers, the public and the environment
through studies on radioecology, evaluation and reduction of radiological impacts, environmental
radioactivity measurement, as well as personal and environmental dosimetry. CIEMAT has also an
important activity in education and training of professionals (radiation protection, radioactive waste
management, nuclear safety). Within CONCERT, CIEMAT will participate in WP2 (Tasks 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 and 2.6); WP3 (Task 3.2 and 3.3), WP6 (participation in Task 6.1 and 6.3; leading Subtask 6.1.2); WP7 (Task 7.5).
