ENEA

Organisation

ENEA is a public research centre operating in the fields of energy, environment and new technologies to support competitiveness and sustainable development. ENEA carries out research activities and provides advanced services on ionizing and non-ionizing radiation by developing products, processes and methodologies aimed at understanding the harmful effects and action mechanisms of noxious chemical and physical agents. This scientific and technical knowledge enables to cope with radioprotection problems and to develop health technologies, thus allowing the national industrial sector to grow and supporting the mission of the Institutions devoted to public health protection. The Radiation Protection Institute (RPI) is in charge of all aspects (research, development and safety) regarding the protection of man and the environment from ionizing radiation. In the 6th and 7th FP the RPI has been involved in EU projects regarding training in radiation protection (ENETRAP and ENETRAP II). The National Institute of Ionizing Radiation Metrology (INMRI) ensures that actual conditions exist for ionizing radiation measurement to be reliable in radiotherapy, medical radiodiagnostics, and radiation protection. It also participates in the technical advisory committee for nuclear safety and health protection of the Italian Prime Minister’s Office. The Laboratory of Radiation Biology and Biomedicine has a strong experience in low-dose risk research applied to both cancer and non-cancer effects, and has participated in several EURATOM projects, the most recent of which are the FP7 projects DoReMi, RENEB, ProCardio, CEREBRAD, Dark-Risk and OPERRA. ENEA is committed to encouraging excellence in radiation protection research and has joined the European platforms MELODI and EURADOS.

Role of participant in the project

Within Concert ENEA provides support to drafting the SRA (WP2; Task 2.1) and identifies research priorities (WP3; Tasks 3.1; 3.2 and 3.3) and education and training (WP7; Task 7.4).
