Fundacao para a Ciencia e a Tecnologia / Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) is the Portuguese national funding agency for science and research and is part of the Portuguese Ministry of Education and Science. Research excellence is the main criteria for FCT support. FCT: a.) - Supports, funds and assesses the brightest minds, ground-breaking ideas and internationally competitive research centres, b.) - Connects scientific research with business and society, c.) - Acts internationally, through cooperation with established and emerging science nations, d.) - Awards competitive grants to fund the most cutting-edge ideas, across all scientific domains. Winning proposals are selected through international peer-review, in a transparent manner and according to internationally recognised standards. e.) - FCT invests over two thirds of its budget in directly supporting scientific research, via studentships, for research centres, fellowships and contracts for talented researchers, project grants for research teams, and core funding.

Role in the project

FCT participates in several work packages related to its fields of expertise, including WP.1 (task 1.7), WP2 (To Be Defined (TBD)), WP3 (task 3.2.2.1 and other TBD), WP4 (task 4.3) and WP7 (subtask 7.5.4).
